Built to Last — Not Just Installed

What makes us different starts before the first material is ordered. GMC Construction is founded and led by an owner who holds a Master's degree in Structural Engineering — so every project is approached with a genuine, advanced understanding of structure, load-bearing changes, drainage, and moisture protection. Most renovation companies focus only on how a space looks. We start with what's underneath, because that's what determines whether your renovation lasts five years or twenty-five.

Handyman & Property Maintenance in Toronto & the GTA

Looking for handyman services Toronto or GTA-wide? Most handyman jobs don’t fail because they’re hard — they fail because nobody shows up. GMC Construction Inc. handles repairs, installations and property maintenance across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area — pot light installation, popcorn ceiling removal, TV mounting, furniture assembly, drywall, carpentry, fence and deck repair, and minor plumbing and electrical — with clear pricing, licensed trades where the work requires them, and the one thing that’s hardest to find: we actually show up. The same team that runs full renovations handles the small jobs, so the quality doesn’t drop just because the job is small. If a repair turns out to be bigger than it looked, we’ll tell you honestly and quote it as a proper project instead of patching over it.

Our Handyman & Maintenance Services

Pot Light Installation

Recessed pot lights and under-cabinet lighting, installed by a licensed electrician — the single fastest way to modernize a room, done to code.

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Scraping off dated popcorn (stucco) ceilings and refinishing them smooth — protected, dust-controlled, and repainted so the room instantly looks newer.

TV & Wall Mounting

TVs, shelves, mirrors and artwork mounted securely into the right anchor or stud — with cables concealed where you want them, so it stays on the wall.

Furniture Assembly

IKEA and flat-pack furniture, shelving, closet systems and wardrobes assembled and secured properly — including anti-tip anchoring for tall units.

Drywall & Painting

Patching holes, repairing cracks, replacing damaged sections and repainting — done so the fix disappears instead of showing.

Carpentry, Doors & Trim

Baseboards, casings, crown moulding, shelving, and interior and exterior doors — hung, adjusted and finished so they close cleanly and last.

Minor Electrical

Light fixtures, switches, outlets, ceiling fans and dimmers — done by a licensed electrician wherever the work legally requires one, because cutting corners here risks your insurance.

Minor Plumbing

Faucets, toilets, shut-off valves, caulking and simple leaks — repaired by a licensed plumber where the work requires it, so a small fix doesn’t become water damage.

Fence, Deck & Exterior

Fence and gate repair, deck board and railing fixes, pressure washing and gutter (eavestrough) cleaning — keeping the outside of the property sound and safe.

How Much Does a Handyman Cost in Toronto?

Small jobs are usually priced hourly with a minimum call-out; larger, well-defined work is quoted as a flat rate. Most GTA jobs fall into these tiers:

Hourly Rate

$75 – $120 / hr

Minimum Call-Out

$150 – $250

Full Day

$650 – $950

Defined Job

Flat-rate quote

These reflect GTA handyman and property-maintenance rates for 2026. Materials are additional unless specified. Batching several small jobs into one visit is almost always better value than booking them separately, since most of the cost is travel and mobilization. Key factors that affect handyman costs:
  • Travel & mobilization — most of a small job’s cost is getting there, which is why a minimum call-out applies and batching jobs saves money.
  • Licensed trades — electrical (like pot lights) and plumbing that legally require a licensed trade cost more than general repairs, and for good reason.
  • Materials — parts and finishes are additional; sending photos ahead lets us bring the right materials on the first visit.
  • Job definition — a clear list with photos gets a flat-rate quote; vague or discovered work is billed hourly.
  • Access & condition — what’s behind the wall or under the sink can turn a quick fix into a proper repair, which we’ll flag before proceeding.
Send us your list, ideally with a few photos, and we’ll give you a realistic price before we arrive. You get clear pricing up front, not a surprise at the end.

Why Choose GMC for Handyman & Maintenance?

We actually show up

The single most common complaint about handyman services is that they don’t turn up or don’t call back. We book the visit, confirm it, and arrive — the low bar that somehow so few clear.

Licensed trades where required

Pot lights and other electrical work, plus plumbing, must legally be done by a licensed trade. We use the right trade for the work rather than cutting corners — because doing otherwise risks your insurance as much as your safety.

Renovation-grade quality on small jobs

The same team that runs full renovations handles the repairs, so a patch, a mounted TV or a scraped ceiling is done to the same standard — not rushed because it’s minor.

Clear, honest pricing

Hourly with a stated minimum, or a flat rate for defined work — told to you before we start. If a job turns out bigger than it looked, we flag it rather than run up the clock.

One call for the whole property

Batch a list into a single visit or set up ongoing maintenance — one point of contact who knows your property, instead of a different number every time something breaks.

Licensed, insured, proven

Fully licensed and insured with WSIB coverage, 500+ completed projects and a 5.0-star rating from 85+ Google reviews — the same company standing behind a $50 repair and a $500,000 renovation.

Common Jobs We Handle

If it’s on this list, we do it — usually in a single visit. If it’s not, ask; the list is a sample, not a limit.

Lighting & Electrical

Pot light installation, light fixture and chandelier replacement, ceiling fans, dimmer switches, and added outlets — by a licensed electrician where required.

Walls & Ceilings

Popcorn ceiling removal, drywall patching and crack repair, accent walls, caulking and repainting — the fixes that make a room read as renovated.

Mounting & Assembly

TV wall mounting, shelf and mirror hanging, curtain and blind installation, and IKEA and flat-pack furniture assembly — anchored securely and level.

Exterior & Seasonal

Fence and gate repair, deck board and railing fixes, pressure washing, and gutter (eavestrough) cleaning — keeping the outside sound between seasons.

Jobs We Take On

Most handyman requests in the GTA fall into one of three shapes. Here’s what each typically involves:

Single Repair

One specific fix — a leaking faucet, a hole in the drywall, a TV to mount, a fixture to swap. Priced against the minimum call-out, done in one visit.

Punch List

A batch of small jobs handled in one visit — pot lights, a scraped ceiling, some assembly and a few repairs together. The most cost-effective way to book.

Ongoing Maintenance

Turnover repairs between tenants, scheduled upkeep and urgent fixes across one or more properties, with one point of contact who knows the portfolio.

How Long Does a Handyman Job Take?

Most single jobs — mounting a TV, swapping a fixture, patching drywall — are done within the minimum call-out or a couple of hours. Pot light installation for a room typically runs a half to a full day. Popcorn ceiling removal depends on the room size and whether it was painted, and is usually quoted per room. A batched punch list is planned to fit a half or full day so you only pay mobilization once.

Do You Work With Landlords and Property Managers?

Yes — it’s a core part of what we do. We handle turnover repairs between tenants, ongoing scheduled maintenance and urgent fixes across multiple properties, with one point of contact who knows your portfolio — rather than a different number every time something breaks. For landlords and managers running several units, that consistency and single point of accountability is usually worth more than the rate on any single job.

I had an absolutely amazing experience with GMC Construction Inc. You never really know what you’re getting when you take the risk of hiring someone new - but I was pleasantly surprised by the level of care and attention to detail Max put into his work. GMC handled a few repairs in my home, including installing a new sink and fixing my door. I also had a few other fixes that I hadn’t initially discussed, and when I brought them up, Max moved quickly and took care of everything without hesitation. He went above and beyond, spending time to find the right tools, making sure everything ran smoothly, and even following up afterward. Max and his wife are truly a rare find: professional, fair with pricing, and they genuinely care about the quality of their work. Highly recommend if you're debating on who to trust with your home! :)

Max is a highly professional and knowledgeable contractor. He completed several jobs with expert attention to detail and wonderful efficiency. He is also very friendly and will offer you additional solutions to improve the jobs he starts. I would highly recommend him and his work. He did a beautiful job mounting my TV, soundbar, and making it all look super clean by running the chords through the wall. My entertainment experience has improved so much thanks to his care and hard work.

frequently asked questions

What does a handyman service cost in Toronto?

Small jobs are usually hourly at $75–$120 per hour with a minimum call-out of $150–$250. A half day (up to four hours) runs $350–$550 and a full day $650–$950. Larger or well-defined work — like pot lights or popcorn ceiling removal — is quoted as a flat rate. Materials are additional unless specified.

Do you install pot lights?

Yes. Pot light (recessed light) installation is one of our most requested jobs. Because it's electrical work, it's done by a licensed electrician to meet Ontario code and protect your insurance. We'll quote it per room or as a flat rate depending on ceiling access and the number of lights.

Can you remove a popcorn ceiling?

Yes. We scrape off the popcorn (stucco) texture, repair and skim the ceiling smooth, and repaint — with the room protected and dust controlled throughout. Price depends on the room size and whether the ceiling was previously painted, which makes removal slower. We quote per room.

What other jobs do you take on?

TV and wall mounting, IKEA and flat-pack furniture assembly, shelf, mirror and blind installation, drywall repair and painting, doors and hardware, fence and deck repair, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, and minor plumbing and electrical. If it's larger or structural, we'll tell you and quote it as a proper project.

Do you use licensed electricians and plumbers?

For work that legally requires them, yes. Pot lights and other electrical work, and much plumbing, must be done by a licensed trade — doing otherwise risks your insurance coverage as much as your safety. We use the right trade for the work rather than cutting corners on it.

Do you work with landlords and property managers?

Yes. We handle turnover repairs between tenants, ongoing scheduled maintenance and urgent fixes across multiple properties, with one point of contact who knows your portfolio — rather than a different number every time something breaks.
